Should I apply for a credit card with no APR for a year?

I have some debt I'm having trouble dealing with at the moment, and I didn't want to take on a credit card because I was afraid of managing floating debt and dealing with interests as I have no previous credit established. However, a friend suggested I could get a credit card that offers no APR for a year and manage my debt that way, until I get back on my feet. It sounds risky, especially as some credit card searches for this kind of offer have at least 13% APR once it kicks in. What should I do?
